Sword-bearing man arrested at HOA meeting

MONROE -- A local man, who police said describes himself as a music teacher for NASA, was arrested Thursday on charges he brought a large sword to a condominium owners meeting.

Joshua Brown, 22, of Deepwood Circle, was charged with breach of peace. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Officers were called to the Northbrook Condominium clubhouse after Brown, bearing a sword, allegedly tried to enter the condo association meeting. It was taken away from him by people at the meeting, police said.

Brown, who claimed to have a permit for the sword, told police that he had brought it to the meeting for his protection, claiming condo owners were trying to have him killed, police said.
